When was the last time you took a good look around your room? Don’t like that pair of jeans? Then why do you still have it lying around? Recycle! Recycle might be a foreign word to you and you might think that nobody has time for that.

But did you know that according to a study done by Princeton University, half of the Earth’s forests are gone and up to 95% of the forests in US has been cut down.

But it’s still not too late to do your part in saving the Earth. You can start from your own homes. Read on to find out how you can do your part to recycle from home.

1. Find out what can be recycled

Not everything can be recycled. But don’t worry, we’ll tell you what you can recycle. In general, items that you can recycle includes metals, paper/cardboards, glass, plastics and even your electronics. So items like aluminium cans, newspapers, plastic bottles and your old mobile phone could be recycled. So raid your rooms and kitchen and keep a look a lookout for these items.

2. Make a list of items you want to get rid of

Getting organized is the first and most important step that you should take to get started with recycling. Don’t worry, it’s not complicated. It’s easy – look about your home, make a mental note of anything recyclable. Now, gather the items you do not want to keep in your possession anymore and make a list. That makes recycling a whole lot easier because this way, the list allows and helps you to identify whether the material of the items are recyclable.

3. Separate your trash

Just two more steps (including this one). You’ve got your list of recyclables and a pile of them beside you, which means that you now know what can and cannot be recycled. So push on, you are now one step closer to helping save the earth! Remember what we said on the first step on knowing what types of items can be recycled? Now is that time to put that knowledge to action. You can grab a couple of trash bags or buckets and label them on the types of recyclables they’re going to hold. (That’s plastic, glass, paper and metal, if you forgot.)

4. Unleash your creativity

We recycle things because these things aren’t biodegradable. But that doesn’t mean we should just pack ‘em up after sorting and make a quick trip to the nearest recycling bin to rid them. Since the recyclables are things that can be reused, why not use them for a creative project? There are plenty of easy, fun DIY projects online within a quick Google search. You won’t even need to go by the crafts’ store to get materials, because you’ll have everything you need. Make a unique, gorgeous chandelier with your own soft drink bottles. Give them a splash of paint or glitter… Add some swirls… this is your own creation, so let your imagination go wild. When your friends come by to visit, you can show off your creation – something that’s wholly yours and unlike any they’d have. So have fun and recycle!
