As the generation that will be making important decisions that might affect our country in 2050, we have a responsibility to take small steps to conserve our environment.

THE Singapore in 1965 would surprise most youths today. We’ve heard many stories from our parents about Singapore “back in the day”, but the pictures are a stark difference to the sterile green landscape we are so accustomed to seeing today.

Tearing down buildings to make way for new urban developments, it should almost seem as if all we have are our trees, reservoirs, parks and water catchments. However, on the tip of Palau Ubin, there is Chek Jawa, containing a rich biodiversity of starfish, algae and octopi.

Government efforts to not abolish this land has been made, keeping in mind that we should strike a balance between city and nature.
